Whilst Roots Decay

She shivers
her offspring, they hear her not
betrayed, left for dead
in fragile stillness she’ll sear, melt and rot

She nurtured them all
from biggest to small
as they slowly flapped their wings
her head she bowed as if unto kings

We’ve gone too far
we’ve gone too far
whilst roots calmly decay
we let greed lead us all astray

Pierce her skin
Consume and gorge on her fruits and flesh
Till this vessel serves no more
depleted, void, reduced to piles of trash

She cries in vein
her tears will rain
and flow through litter
down a soiled drain

All the while these words are reciting…
